As you prepare for the season’s artisan and farmers markets, it’s a great idea to get yourself as organized as possible ahead of the game and these tips will help you get your ducks in a row as you continue to prepare for your next big show.

In this post I have put together a few ideas and essential tips that you might not have thought of, all to ensure your booth shines and your event proceeds without a hitch. From preliminary planning to the final touches, let's dive into making your presence and meticulously designed setup at the market not just seen, but remembered.

Here are a few of my favourite tips to keep you feeling calm, cool and collected as you set up shop at seasonal events throughout the year.

  1. Create a work back schedule by plotting out all of your dates in advance. This will help give you enough time to ensure that everything is manufactured, printed and installed on time for your show.

  2. Have your promotional materials ready at least a week before your event. You may also want to consider laying out your table as well as packing and unpacking everything for your booth on a free surface at home to ensure that your booth organization is efficient. This allows you to make any adjustments you need before the show.

  3. Don’t forget that you can add in other elements to make your booth special, such as candles, vases, plants, flowers, stones, umbrellas, or anything else that makes sense to your business.

  4. Have you thought about promotions or special event pricing? Consider printing off a cheap and cheerful postcard at your local printer. You will want to include a discount code if applicable, as well as information about your company or a hook to entice people to buy a particular product.

  5. Test your POS system ahead of time to ensure that it's running smoothly and have a backup payments plan. If this is your first event, you will need time to sign up for a payments processor if you haven’t already and you will want to test out a few payments/orders to make sure everything is in order.
